Mission Statement and History

The BC Cup Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was founded in memory of Barry Hogan and Colin Headrick, the deceased sons of PGA Golf Professionals and close friends Tim Hogan and Jimmy Headrick. The Foundation is intended to be one of the founders’ ways to keep the memories of their sons alive.

In addition to awarding academic scholarships, the BC Cup Foundation, Inc. also hosts the BC Cup Invitational Golf Tournament each summer at Money Hill Golf and Country Club. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, the BC Cup Invitational was known as “The Colin Cup,” in memory of Colin Headrick, and was hosted by Jimmy Headrick at Eastover Golf and Country Club. After Eastover’s closure in 2005, Tim Hogan offered to host the tournament at Money Hill. Jimmy graciously accepted, with one condition: the tournament would be called the BC Cup Invitational, sharing its former name with that of Barry Hogan. From there, The BC Cup Foundation, Inc. was born.

Invigorated by its move to Money Hill in 2006, the fundraising ability of the fledgling organization reached unsurpassed levels. In 2008, the Foundation awarded $15,000 in college scholarships, the most of any such organization in Louisiana. After the 2009 scholarships are awarded in late summer, the Foundation and its predecessor will have distributed over $100,000 to deserving college students.

In 2009, for the 15th year, the Foundation will award college scholarships to a boy golfer and a girl golfer in the seven-parish region of southeast Louisiana. The scholarships are not based on golfing ability or achievement, but rather on financial need, academic achievement, and community service. The recipients are drawn from a pool of applicants participating in the Kelly Gibson Jr. Golf Tour and New Orleans Golf Association Summer Tournament Program, which serves junior golfers from ages 9 to 22.
