Reasons we are a conservation priority site in
Louisiana:
- Money Hill, approximately 20,000 acres in
size, makes up part of the East Gulf Coastal
Plain eco region.
- Money Hill contains one of the last remaining
functional sites in southeast Louisiana that
supports a mosaic of quality or restorable longleaf
pine forests and pine wetlands.
- The Money Hill preserve supports the federally-listed
gopher tortoise and Louisiana quillwort.
- The Money Hill preserve supports over 40 other
state and globally-rare species of plants and
animals, many of which are restricted to the
longleaf pine ecosystem.
- The Money Hill preserve is a potential restoration
area for the federally-listed red-cockaded woodpecker.
